Survivor

San Diego. There’s not a whole lot to pick from this week. The 2 best teams are playing each other. The 2 worst are on byes. The best of the rest is the hottest team of late west of the Mississippi. I am worried that last week was all adrenaline, winning one for San Diegoans, and this is the let down week.

Warning of the Week. Tennessee. Everyone seems to think Carolina is dead in the water. However, they have won all of their road games this year. Go figure.

VulturesTo be a vulture or at least act like one. The road is littered with plenty of dead corpes of fantasy football owners out there.  Almost every league has the 0-8 and 1-7 teams with no hope that don’t bother to even change their bye week players out.  Now is the time to start making these teams offers.

In fact, it may be easier in keeper leagues to offer a young buck for a guy that will give you a chance at the championship in weeks 13-17.  The guys with 2008 potential on your bench like D. Williams, J. Norwood, S. Young, M. Lynch, B. Quinn, C. Johnson, G. Olsen should be very valuable to an owner looking to build next year’s team.

If your league allows you to trade draft picks, don’t go crazy and trade away your top 5 picks but consider 6th-10th round picks and the value of what you can get in return.  In a non-keeper league remember that there is only about half of the regular season to go and 2-3 weeks of playoffs.

Finally, if all else fails, you can trade cash for players.  This is especially true if someone has a player that will an individual award in a league.  If LaDanian Tomlinson will win him $25 at the end of the year, you’re going to have to match that and add some players to get him.

On the flip side, if you are an 0-8 or 1-7 owner, there is still plenty of work to do this season.  Start looking at the contenders and sizing up what  you would accept for a trade.  It’s never too early to think about next year.

Question of the Day:  What’s the best trade pick-up you’ve made or seen this year?
